The title ‘Caracole’ comes from the Spanish word Caracol, is used to describe the half turn to the right or left movement performed by a horse and its rider. I work with a long stretched single coil, twisting and turning it into the form — a play of positive and negative spaces. It’s almost like choreographing a movement in dance.
These particular Caracoles are made with John Jessiman Stoneware-body with grog. They are mostly naked clay woodfired in the Anagama chamber of the Noborigama at Cub Creek Foundation without any glaze and with very little brushed porcelain slip.
