John Hartom is an artist, educator and community activist who shares a studio with his wife Lisa Blackburn at their home in Burnsville, NC. His studio work is currently focused on creating paintings and mono-prints that are used to make books, wall panels and bas-reliefs.  For the past thirty years he has been a food justice advocate often utilizing the arts to bring a focus to food security issues. In 1990 he and Blackburn created The Empty Bowls Project, an international crafts-based effort to fight hunger.
