Featured Artist: Michael Klapthor
Now that is the most fun-looking body of ceramics that we’ve seen in a looong time. These nostalgic, weathered, 1950ish cartoon-looking robots are just what I needed - when I didn’t even know that I needed it. Sometimes, humor in art is overlooked and disregarded when it should be promoted and praised. Leo Rosten once wrote that "Humor is the affectionate communication of insight," and knowing when you need a lift - is pretty good insight in my mind. And that’s especially true when it’s done as skillfully and as well thought out as these pieces by Michael Klapthor are.
Featured Artist: Mark Peters
Seeing the newest work by one of my ceramic heroes; Mark Peters, is definitely a special surprise. He was the very first Ceramic Art Network demonstration video I’d ever seen - and he was simply amazing in it. And once we moved to Bakersville and found I found out that Mark was a local, I was on cloud 9. Well, just a couple of weeks ago, Mark called me and said he was dropping some work off at our home, and now, we get to present it to you all.
I know you can’t tell from an image just how great these feel, or how light they are, and just how wonderful to have a Mark Peters pitcher in your hands…but trust me, all those things are there as well.
So thank you Mark!! and your collectors thank you as well!!
Pattie Chalmers
Pattie Chalmers grew up and went to art school in Winnipeg, Canada. She received her BFA in printmaking from the University of Manitoba, and her MFA in ceramics from the University of Minnesota. Chalmers has exhibited in group exhibitions on five continents, in six countries and in thirty-four states and has had seven solo exhibitions in the past five years, most recently Hinterland, at Silverwood Park Gallery, St. Anthony, MN, and The Mudmaid Museum at the Sheldon Art Center in St. Louis.
Chalmers is a professor at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale where she teaches ceramics and is the Head of Graduate Studies. (Chalmers might be a little compulsive, and she definitely likes to laugh at her own jokes).
Featured Artist: Steve Hansen
He's killing me.... KILLING ME☠️, every time I read these hilarious word bubbles and see those images! Yep, Steve Hansen was willing to let us show off his superb comic/ad-inspired, with a strong 70’s nostalgia vibe, work to the world today! These ridiculously funny pieces are 100% functional and will add a smile to your face no matter what. I’d never realized just how awkward and slightly offensive and how the meanings of things have changed over the years - til I read these. The funniest part for me is just how unaware I was of it all…. So immerse yourself in this flash from the past and relive your naive youth (or just enjoy them regardless of when your youth was.). They’re still fabulous! And I still laugh at them - and myself, for laughing…
Before becoming a ceramic artist and teacher, Ron Meyers worked as a graphic designer, and he continued drawing throughout his entire career. His 2D work is loose, expressive, and full of character. Many of his creatures are playful caricatures of people he’s met or worked with over the years. He also loved portraying himself as a rat.

My wife Silvia and I have only been in the gallery business for just over five years now (plus two more years spent managing Crimson Laurel Gallery). It wasn’t something either of us had a background in or even considered when thinking about a career or starting a business, but like many things that happen in life, it just happened. (…)
