Featured Artist: Steve Hansen

He's killing me.... KILLING ME☠️, every time I read these hilarious word bubbles and see those images! Yep, Steve Hansen was willing to let us show off his superb comic/ad-inspired, with a strong 70’s nostalgia vibe, work to the world today! These ridiculously funny pieces are 100% functional and will add a smile to your face no matter what. I’d never realized just how awkward and slightly offensive and how the meanings of things have changed over the years - til I read these. The funniest part for me is just how unaware I was of it all…. So immerse yourself in this flash from the past and relive your naive youth (or just enjoy them regardless of when your youth was.). They’re still fabulous! And I still laugh at them - and myself, for laughing…

Featured Artist: Amy Sanders

Gasp! … and another one for good measure… GASP!  I am in absolute awe of the forms Amy comes up with. I mean for real! is that not a killer pitcher?? And those offset bottoms to her cups below, and how some of them rock and move and just how gloriousthose handles are!!! She’s taken clay and has transformed it into the most gorgeous shapes of functional art, even as she’s attending the University of Nebraska-Lincoln as a Master of Fine Arts candidate. Which means to me at least, just how amazingly ahead of the curve she is and how EVERYONE should invest in her career and follow her and just own a piece of her work now… - just so’s you can say that you knew her when…

New Work by
Jeannine Marchand

Okay, hold the phone… a ceramic cloth-shaped wall piece?! YEP! The satiny smooth texture, the folds, the clean whiteness of it all (with that jet black frame/backing…) all of it!!! These beauties are the work of Jeannine Marchand, who just so happens to live locally!! I am always in absolute awe of the craftsmanship Jeannine puts into each and every piece she creates, and these are no exceptions. Just look at all those pieces…and the variety!! Unbelievable! So, get prepared to think about which one fits your home decor, and what you just can’t live without ☺️

Featured Artists: Ron Meyers & George McCauley

This is absolutely magical for me - one of my most beloved super hero idols and human beings of all time & a former student of his who continues to push the limits of the clay material, showmanship, concepts in ceramics, etc… All in one show!!

So, Ron has been a mentor-grandfather figure to me since 1990 whether he knew it or not; we routinely stayed at each others homes, would have meals w/ his family and friends, always telling me stories of the people he had known and had worked with and had been around… (ceramics is a pretty small and interconnected community) - and actually, he was a major reason we’ve been able to have such a successful gallery - having had a show w/ us every year since we opened and providing us with work whenever we needed.

We actually met George in person when we helped move Ron & Hester from their previous home/studio to a smaller place just a couple of houses away from their son’s home. George was there to help box things up and organize, and just do whatever was possible to make the transition go smoothly. He even built a small studio for Ron in their new place so that he’d be able to continue creating. And when all was done and packed up, Ron & Hester ended up giving us over 500 pieces from their personal collection to resell for them - donating the proceeds to create a ceramics scholarship for UGA in Athens. These are the kind of people we get to be around and interact with and stand in awe of what they create - and their giving hearts are reason enough to LOVE them to pieces.

So, enjoy this show knowing a little of the people behind it. And if you get a chance, PLEASE wish Ron a Happy Birthday. He’s 91 today and is celebrating here with us, in person, at the opening!!!

Before becoming a ceramic artist and teacher, Ron Meyers worked as a graphic designer, and he continued drawing throughout his entire career. His 2D work is loose, expressive, and full of character. Many of his creatures are playful caricatures of people he’s met or worked with over the years. He also loved portraying himself as a rat.

Folk art meets fairytale meets surrealism... love, love, and love. This is the strange and narrative work of Donna Flanery, our Montana artist who illustrates imaginary story lines you’ll wish were in a book to read, but you’ll love that they’re all over her ceramics instead. So, see what you can come up with (with Donna’s imagery) and explore the storyteller in you. Who knows what you’ll create? She sure makes it easy!

My wife Silvia and I have only been in the gallery business for just over five years now (plus two more years spent managing Crimson Laurel Gallery). It wasn’t something either of us had a background in or even considered when thinking about a career or starting a business, but like many things that happen in life, it just happened. (…)
